10 Things I Learned from God in Ecuador (As told in Pictures)

Not all who wander are lostAs a working Catholic mom, I feel a pressure to justify why I work. I feel that pressure to justify it with my Catholic friends, who know I long to stay at home. I feel the pressure to justify it to my working friends, who know faith is at the center of my leadership at work. I feel the pressure to even justify it to myself. I often am caught between a rock and a hard place, when most of the time Our Lord is just asking me to be and to be His.

The Lord has me in the work world right now. I have to admit, I am not sure why. Other than the financial provision for our family of 7, I often wonder if this is all He wants me to do. As a higher education administrator, I work fairly long hours and receive very little recognition. I must always remember that this work is not about me, it is for Him.

In May, I had the opportunity to travel with 11 college students and another advisor (fancy way of saying “adult”) to Ecuador as part of our international service experience through the office I supervise. I was ecstatic, at first. As the departure date arrived, however, I was increasingly anxious and I did not want to leave my family.

I offered it to God, and I asked Him in prayer to use me to do His Holy Will in Ecuador. I wanted to be of service. I wanted to know, love, and serve the Lord through my work.

Boy oh Boy, does He answer prayer!

Right from the start, I was put into service, and I am super pumped that I was chosen to go on this experience with these 12 individuals at this moment in time. The time was right, and the Lord showed me how important my work is as a Catholic momma and wife.

Here are my top 10 things I learned about God in Ecuador (as shown in pictures):

1. God created the world. It is beautiful and perfect, just the way He created it.

2. God’s love is abundant in developing nations, and not because we show up from ‘Merica. God’s love is abundant throughout Ecuador, and most especially seen in the children of the country.

3. God made me into a Mom. His Most Holy Will in my life is to be a momma. This comes through even in my work.

6. God is faithful and serious about the Communion of Saints. And they show up everywhere for you when you need them most.
